An idling truck caught fire in a maintenance yard. The tractor and it’s trailer burned to the ground. A local clean up group was contacted and provided an initial estimate for the clean up totaling between $53,000 and $60,000. Cura Emergency Services opted to work with a known, network contractor to ensure that the clients best interests were represented. As a result of Cura’s involvement, the total project costs came in at about $30,000 less that initial estimate.

Following a motor oil release that impacted an on-site catch basin and
retention pond, Cura quickly assessed the extent of the release and supported the client in
expanding the project scope to include remediation of the affected drainage pipe. Cura
managed and coordinated all corrective actions, including environmental remediation,
regulatory compliance, and contractor oversight, while organizing competitive bids to help
secure cost-effective solutions. The site was successfully restored to its original condition,
and the project concluded with positive outcomes for both the client and regulatory
agencies.

Results:

• Managed remediation of a retention pond, catch basin, and drainage pipe following
  a motor oil release.
• Removed approximately 3,500 gallons of impacted water and 35 tons of impacted
  rock.

Following a mechanical failure involving a pipe connection, Cura coordinated
the emergency response, contractor mobilization, regulatory communication,
environmental support, and waste disposal. Cura maintained communication among all
involved parties and managed the project through completion of the emergency response
phase.

Following an aircraft crash into a lake, Cura coordinated the emergency
response, aircraft recovery, regulatory communication, fuel containment, and cleanup
activities. Crews contained the remaining fuel within the aircraft and used absorbent
materials to recover fuel from the water. The aircraft was successfully removed, and the
affected area was restored to its pre-incident condition in accordance with applicable
regulatory requirements.

Summary

A pipeline service truck rolled over on a frozen lake beside the Dalton Highway in remote Prospect Creek, Alaska spilling 100 gallons of diesel fuel. Cura’s network and expertise enabled specialized response and consulting for site remediation in an environment that presented unique challenges. Subzero temperatures and mobilization to such a remote location required efficient planning and special considerations of the arctic conditions to efficiently characterize the environmental impacts to the frozen lake. In coordination with Alaska DEC, Cura executed a long term strategy of mitigation and monitoring to meet DEC closure requirements during the warm season which eliminated the need for further monitoring and costly mobilizations.
